Because not all behavioural problems are simply training issues.

As a veterinary behaviourist, Cynthia combines an understanding of the natural behaviour patterns of a variety of companion animals, as well as how animals learn and can apply these principles to diagnosing how problem behaviour develops and how it can be modified. Only by understanding what drives or motivates a particular behaviour can it be successfully modified and this is why many behaviour problems cannot be resolved by training alone.

Cynthia also understands the link between human behaviour and how this can influence undesirable animal behaviour. She will work with pet owners to change this and to repair the bond which is so often broken when there are on-going or serious behavioural issues. 

Having been a vet in practice for over 25 years Cynthia has an advantage in that she is also very aware that certain medical conditions can alter behaviour and will consider these when making a diagnosis. She is therefore able to select an appropriate treatment from a range of options including medical, pharmacological and complementary interventions as well as formulating a behaviour modification programme.
